1. What kind of service is Guest Footman?
A footman was a distinguished role in Britain's grand houses, assisting the butler by welcoming guests and serving at table. As the staff most often seen before the master, footmen honed their deportment and appearance to the highest degree.
THE BUTLER's Guest Footman reimagines that tradition for the present day as a spot service from three hours.
1.1 A tradition alive in Britain’s great houses
In the mansions of 19th-century British aristocracy, the footman was entrusted with everything guests could see, from the greeting at the door to serving at dinner.
Attire and posture were said to reflect the standing of the house, so footmen were held to especially rigorous training in deportment. Our association’s butlers inherit this same sense of their role.
1.2 The ease of booking by the occasion
From ¥26,400 (tax incl.) for three hours, this is the most accessible plan of all our services. It extends to half- or full-day bookings and hourly extensions, so it can be shaped to the size of your gathering.
With no ongoing contract to commit to, it is often chosen as a first step.
1.3 Spot bookings, the same quality as a dedicated contract
A spot plan never means a lesser calibre of butler. A butler who has completed the training of The All Japan Butler Association attends in full dress — a black morning coat and white gloves.
Reception, service and the farewell are all held to the same standard as our premium plans.

2. How the butler works on the day
The three hours of Guest Footman begin before the start.
The butler arrives ahead of time, checks the flow of the space and the equipment, and readies himself to receive the first guest. Here we follow his movements on the day, from reception to farewell, in sequence.
2.1 The greeting sets the mood of the gathering
The impression of a gathering is all but decided in the first few seconds after a guest steps inside. The butler moves through the sequence — a bow at the entrance, taking coats, showing guests to the drawing room — unhurried yet seamless.
The sense of being received with care softens the mood of the conversation that follows.
2.2 The timing of service that never interrupts
In serving, what matters most is not the elegance of the pour but the timing of when to approach and when to withdraw. The butler reads the pauses in conversation and quietly tops up glasses just before they empty.
The host need never mind the service, and can give themselves entirely to the conversation.
2.3 Through to the closing farewell
At the close of the gathering, the butler returns each guest's coat and sees them off courteously at the entrance. His work continues right through to the final word of parting.
Only once the guests are out of sight does he begin to clear away, returning the space to its original state — and so the butler's three hours come to an end.

3. What to know before you book
The question we hear most from those inviting a butler for the first time is, "What should we prepare?" In short, almost nothing special is required.
What shapes the quality of the day is not the lavishness of the equipment but the conversation beforehand.
3.1 There is nothing in particular to prepare
The butler arrives in full dress and brings all the etiquette and technique the work requires. Even for service, if you let us know in advance where your glasses and cutlery are kept, the butler will handle and prepare them appropriately.
Simply receive us as your home usually is.
3.2 The pre-event hearing shapes the day
When you book, our coordinator asks about the purpose of the day, who your guests are and how you would like things to proceed. The butler designs his movements around this, so the more specific the hearing, the more precise the service.
The smaller the request, the more freely we hope you will share it.
3.3 The next step is Day Butler
After seeing a butler at work through Guest Footman, many clients go on to the one-day dedicated Day Butler or the monthly Private Butler. A spot experience is a sound way to judge how a butler might serve your own way of living.
