The House Steward manages the child’s school timetable and lesson schedule, coordinating while communicating with tutors and instructors. They build a comfortable schedule that also allows for travel time.

From the child’s everyday conversation and behaviour, the House Steward observes their interests and enthusiasms and proposes an environment in which their talents can grow.

An involvement that began with pre- and post-natal housework becomes a relationship that watches over the child’s growth for years.

4.4 Harmony With Pets and Elderly Family Members

As set out under “Pet Support” and “Elderly Support” on the former site, a household welcoming a new life cannot neglect care for pets or elderly family members.

The butler adjusts things so that the whole family’s life runs smoothly, including feeding and walking pets and supporting the daily life of elderly parents.

A single event such as a birth is also the gateway to a butler service that supports the family as a whole.

4.5 Receiving Guests, Another Form of Support

Receiving guests who call to congratulate the new baby is another support the butler provides.

As set out under “Support for Visitors” on the former site, from the welcoming greeting to taking their bags and the small attentions that make a comfortable visit, the butler offers hospitality so that the family, undistracted by receiving guests, can concentrate on time with the baby.

4.6 A Long-Term Bond That Continues From the Pre- and Post-Natal Period

It is a hallmark of the butler service that a connection begun from a temporary need — the pre- and post-natal period — develops into a relationship that supports the whole of a household’s life for years: a child’s growth, elderly family members, pets, and receiving guests.

The forms of support introduced separately under each heading on the former site are now undertaken together, by a single butler with a view over the whole household.

4.7 Emotional Support and Communication

As touched on under “Elderly Support” on the former site, a butler’s support is not confined to taking over the chores.

In the emotionally unsettled period after a birth, listening to the mother and seeking to understand her needs and feelings is part of the emotional support the butler holds dear.

Easing loneliness and maintaining peace of mind are important roles of the butler, alongside help with the housework.

4.8 Responding to Needs That Differ From Home to Home

The worries a household faces before and after a birth are not all alike.

Homes with several older children, homes where the mother does not return to her parents’ house to give birth, homes where the husband comes home late — circumstances differ in each case.

Through careful listening the butler grasps each household’s particular situation and builds bespoke, rather than one-size-fits-all, support.

4.9 Care for Multiple Births and Larger Families

In homes with multiple births such as twins or triplets, or with several children, there are ever more moments when there simply are not enough hands.
